Day 02 @ Jeju – South Coast – Songaksan

While walking along the coastal route of Yongmeori, we were able to see Songaksan in the far distance on this clear day today – about 5 kilometers away. So, after finishing the coastal walk, we drove next to the start point of the trail that goes around Songaksan.

Songaksan is a small volcanic cone and located near the southwestern tip of Jeju Island. The walking trail circles the crater and offers wide views across the surrounding coastline. One thing to note though: the complete trail as I saw from the map will probably take an hour to finish, and there isn’t much shelter to speak of. So, while there was a persistent sea breeze, the Sunday afternoon sun was well overhead at this point. The trail itself is fairly gentle and easy to follow, and you can get expansive views of the coast on the left, and the mountain on the right.

We’re thankful the busloads of tourists we’d encountered at Yongmeori Coast were not visiting Songaksan!

We didn’t finally complete the trail as we were getting pretty worn out by this point, having clocked in about 13,000 steps by the time we were 40% done on the trail. It was getting a little late in the afternoon, so we opted to turn around and head back to the entrance and figure out what to do with the remaining hours for the day. Continued in the next post!
