Day 08 @ Kanazawa – Kanazawa Castle Park

Our Day 08 itinerary actually has four places we’re checking out: Kenrokuen, Kanazawa Castle Park, Oyama Shrine, then finally Naga-machi District. All four are actually near to each other and within easy walking distance – thought that the weather was chilly when the wind blew, and the snow pellets did make walking from place to place that bit more difficult.

Kanazawa Castle isn’t as immediately striking as the other famous castles in Japan, on account – as I read it – that it’s been burnt down several times in the last 150 years. Still, the remaining structures do still make for memorable pictures, more so as the snowing weather continued today as we left Kenrokuen to make our way to this castle park.

Approaching the castle via the Ishikawa-mon entrance.
The two turrets – Hishi Yagura (right) and Tsuzuki Yagura (left), the Gojukken Nagaya – storehouse – that connects the two turrets, and the large courtyard in front of it. P is running across it in the minute or so break from snowfall.
Snow falling on the Hashizume-mon that’s adjacent to the Tsuzuki Yagura turret.
All of us were a little miserable in the cold – excepting Peter who seemed to be enjoying every minute of it!
Walking along the paved footpath towards the Tsuzuki Yagura turret.
Moat as we approached the Hashizume-mon gate.
The inside moat.
Reverse side of the gate.
The Nezumita-mon Gate, and heading to our next place – Oyama Shrine.
