Just before we exited Kanazawa Castle Park via Nezumita-mon Gate and continued towards Oyama Shrine, we chanced upon the Gyokusen-inmaru Park:
This small landscaped Japanese garden sits in front of a tea-house that had enthusiastic staff who explained the history behind this garden, and even volunteered to help visitors take pictures too. The garden didn’t seem open for visitors to walk into, so we could only admire it from inside the teahouse and also the small viewing veranda. Nonetheless, this stopover was a much-needed respite from the cold and snow.
Oyama Shrine was added into our Day 08 itinerary largely on account that during our initial planning, we were trying very hard to find places that would be interesting for us, and that were reasonably close to walk to after we had finished Kenrokuen. The shrine has a small pond that’s connected by bridges, and again like the other places of visitation today, it was really lovely in its quiet serenity. This shrine, likewise also Kanazawa Castle Park that we’d just come from, simply doesn’t draw the large crowds that we saw at Kenrokuen. All the better for us!
