SEA Aquarium @ Resort Worlds Sentosa

Every year or so, my workplace organizes a family-centered event for us to bring our families to an interesting and usually tourist-y place in Singapore. Last year’s event was at Gardens by the Bay. This year, it was at the SEA Aquarium at Resort Worlds Sentosa, and our visit was on Saturday.

The Aquarium was opened late last year, and is apparently the largest of its kind in the world and comprises a number of nicely done-up habitats and tanks that show the wide diversity of sea creatures. The place was crowded though, and this was even considering that the event organizing committee had booked the Aquarium to open two hours exclusively before the normal opening hours of 1000 hrs. We left just when the place was opened to the public at 1000 hrs, and heard from friends thereafter that they had to queue up to purchase tickets, and had to queue up some more to see the exhibits too. Personally, while the Aquarium was decent enough and its 27 feet tall Open Ocean Tank impressive, I found the New England Aquarium in Boston even more nicely done-up. Well; Hannah at least enjoyed the visit.

The 45mm f1.8 lens was the primary lens for this visit. Interestingly, as great in image quality as the E-M5’s sensor is, it’s still let down by poor continuous AF tracking. The critters were constantly on the move, and a lot of pictures turned out out of focus to varying degrees – even with shutter speeds of 1/250s. This wasn’t helped too by the somewhat lower illumination levels in several tanks, as compared to the other aquariums in Boston, San Francisco and Osaka. Here’s a selection of the keepers from the visit.
