Showing at a local home cinema – Part 12

blog-superheromovie One of the nicest things about being on a DVD home rental subscription is that I get to loan as many film titles as I can possibly manage. So, as in my comment to our small group Ann to other day, I do watch everything – gems and junk alike.:)

Superhero Movie (2008). There’s been a string of spoof and parody movies in the last year or two. There was Disaster Movie for disasters and Meet the Spartans for 300 for instance. There’s also lines of similarity between them: they’re all low-budget and Carmen Electra – Hollywood sex bomb – shows up in every one of them LOL.

Superhero spoofs superhero films, and Spider-Man in particular. Heck – the sequence of gags in the first half of the movie mirrors all the major story points of its more serious film brother. The opening monologue, Parker chasing the bus, finding it hard to get a seat etc. – it’s all there. The first X-Men movie gets attention too – with the pick of the gag bunch a spoof of Xavier’s Mutant School. And Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman’s parents murder scene is a hoot!

On the balance, the film has (marginally) more hits than misses in its gags though there’s still that sizable number of utter groaners. So, worth a rental maybe – but you’re not missing anything.

  2. Haha.:) I watch everything – and this couple of weeks has been pretty dry. But a couple of pretty good films are lined up in my rental queue, so hopefully they come soon.:)
