Day 05 @ Osaka – Osaka Castle Park

Continuing on for Day 05: Osaka Castle Park next. Unlike Himeji Castle that we’d just visited yesterday on Day 04, Osaka Castle is a reconstruction: building of it first started in 1583, then when completed, it was attacked and partially destroyed by the feudal lord’s enemies. According to notes, the present version of the castle was built in 1931, which also survived the allied bombing during World War II.

Admission into the castle is a relatively affordable ¥600, but we didn’t finally check out the interior of the castle. We explored the very large castle park on the outside, walked just about the entire circumference – in part because we were also trying to find our way out of the park LOL – and took the requisite pictures for posting into this blog too. Like our visit to Himeji Castle yesterday, it was a pretty busy day at Osaka Castle, with a good number of tour groups making their way through the park to enter into the castle.

The very impressive and wide South Outer Moat, with the Rokuban-yagura Turret (The sixth turret) in the background.
Entering into the compound via Otemon Gate, with the Sengan-yagura Turret in the center of the picture.
The inner moat, which is now covered with grass.
The main tower of Osaka Castle.
The North Outer Moat, which saw tour boats about.
Exploring the rest of the massive Castle Park and slowly making our way back to the train station.
Huge park that’s roughly 800 x 700 meters. Wear comfortable shoes!
