Ohori Park is decent, but the real gem is the Japanese Garden tucked in the south-eastern corner of the park. Most visitors to the park itself won’t visit this quiet spot, possibly also on account that there’s a small admission charge to enter the grounds. It’s normally around ¥250/SGD3.20, but I was given discounted entry. Not quite sure why — but I doubt it was because I was a foreigner. Maybe it’s the weekend discounted rate? Either way, the garden is beautifully landscaped in the Japanese tradition and immaculately maintained, and the elderly lady at the ticketing counter speaks English too if you’d like to chat with her.
The garden, like most Japanese landscaped gardens, isn’t huge, but there are a few detours you can take from the main path that will lead you to pavilions where you can chill, relax, rest, or just contemplate the meaning of life. There was also a lass having her photos taken. Her traditional dress must have been uncomfortable in the noon-time heat!

Summary: Kept up very well and beautiful. A must-visit if you’re already at Ohori Park. Well worth the admission ticket price. Set aside at least 30 minutes in this garden.
Continued in the next post when I walked on to the Fukuoka Castle Ruins!
