10 Days in Maldives – Day 04 – Snorkeling #3

We snorkeled twice during our sand bank visit: these pictures were taken on the first outing, and the selection here were taken using the Olympus Tough TG-5, an underwater-capable compact camera that I acquired just for this trip. This is my first time snorkeling specifically for the purpose of taking still pictures, and I’m learning: but man – it wasn’t easy! It was hard to see the viewfinder of the TG-5 while in the water to do proper composition: so I could only point the camera in the general direction of the critter, and hope for the best!

The TG-5 should also have a setting for underwater shots, but I missed setting it if there is indeed one such. So, all the pictures in this post had to be post-processed in Lightroom: basically, numerous adjustments to White Balance, vibrancy, shadows and also exposure. Captions identifying the critters below are a best effort only – some might be incorrect!

Our guest house Sameer taking a dive: the spot here was a few meters deep.

On the overall, the pictures turned out quite well for a small compact underwater camera. Thank goodness too, since the TG-5 wasn’t particularly cheap!
