12 Days in Taiwan – Day 11 – Golden Hour Photography @ Xinyi

I kept a close look at my watch as we were having dinner at Eslite Xinyi Store’s basement foodcourt. I’d missed the sunset photography shoot up Taipei 101 the day before on Day 10 – so this was my last chance to do some Golden Hour photography, even if it’s at ground level. At 5:20PM and our tummies filled up, we stepped out to check if we were really at Golden Hour – you can sometimes never tell in Winter – and it was. It was pretty chilly outside, and I was only dressed in a Polo T and jeans. Hannah then quipped to Ling: “There daddy goes again… to photograph his favorite building.”

So here we go. Photos and comments to go along again!

The fiery red clouds I saw almost exactly a week ago in Hualien appeared again today, but it was at sunset rather than sunrise this time, and over Taipei. Awe-inspiring sight for all of several minutes again.
A series of varied shots of Taipei 101 from ground level. I was in the wrong facing to take a picture of Taipei 101 against the red cloud layer, and that incredible phenomenon would had been long gone even if I hustled quickly to the right side. Still, the 509m tall skyscraper really looks stunning at Golden Hour, and this shot still has some traces of the red sunset from the earlier picture too.
A quick shot taken to show how a biased perspective can give a different impression. At casual glance from this picture, it would look like Taipei 101 is no taller than the other skyscrapers surrounding it, when in reality, the second tallest building in the city – Nan Shan Plaza (not in this picture) – is just over half the height of Taipei 101.
Another illustration to show perspective.

Another one around Eslite Xinyi Store.
Christmas decorations are up!
Our last night in Taipei! Weather’s a cool 13 to 14 degree C.

That’s a wrap for Day 11, and we’ll be heading back to Singapore tomorrow night. I’ll probably draft my notes during the flights back and post it when I’m home.
