Work-in-Progress – Part 47 – Defects (IV)

We met another bunch of specialist contractors over the latter part of the last week and last weekend, and they included persons for curtains, and also different types of grills. I think we’ve got a pretty good idea of our options, and are learning towards specific contractors for each of the items now.

One sure thing about home renovations is that you really learn a lot about the different options out there, the materials used, and the short and long term maintenance and issues posed by them. And while the Internet is full of resources for us to read and make perhaps slightly more informed decisions, a lot of it still comes down to gut feeling and instinct. For instance, there are so many different options for decking: wood composites, chengal, ironwood, teak, bamboo etc – and all of them have their distinctive issues and challenges, for example, robustness against weather conditions, scratches, need for resanding/varnishing maintenance, tolerance against heat, mold etc.

As of last Saturday, most of the rectification work is done, though several issues had yet to be resolved – e.g. stained toilet seats, stained door handles, part of the door signage was missing, cooker hood gauze, partially dented wardrobe doors. The defect team though is confident that they’ll be able to hand over the unit by the end of this week, and even if not (i.e. there are new observed defects), they are agreeable to let our renovation proceed first in tandem if the outstanding defects are minor; which thankfully they all are.

Pictures!

We met with our designer too to plan out our apartment’s electrical and Internet points, and from the looks of it, are going for all the works. Might have to dial it down a little once we see the electrical work prices LOL. Our electrical fixtures plans will require a separate post, so I’ll do one up once we receive the proposed schematics later.
