The best toys we bought for Hannah have to be those colourful plastic cups from Ikea. A pack of six costs only S$3.90 and they are a source of endless fun for our little girl. The things Hannah does with the cups so far are:

  • bite, suck and lick at the rim
  • tap and pat the cups
  • hold one cup in one hand and clap it with the other
  • make scratching sounds by pushing the cups against the floor
  • make rhythmic noise by banging the cups against the floor or other objects
  • hold one cup in each hand and clap them
  • hold two cups in one hand and shake them
  • throw the cups over the play yard when bored or to get mommy’s/daddy’s attention
  • stack the cups together
  • create her own rattle by putting an object into one cup and shake it

The last one was recorded last night when I saw her doing the very thing. As her mommy, I showed her various ways of playing with the cups (e.g. covering a ear with one cup to hear sounds of waves, spinning them, stacking them up into a pyramid) but she didn’t copycat. Well, I saw that our baby prefers to explore for herself and knows instinctively what creativity is. :)

  1. Aww, so adorable. You should show us more of her doing so many different things with the cups :D If she puts things in the cup, you could try the game of finding the toy under which cup or something like that, that would be funny if she guesses the right cup ;D

Does she ever fall fall any more after standing up? Or does she know how to get down carefully?

  2. Hi didi,

Thank you for the compliment and suggested game. :) We shall try to play it with Hannah :)

We were worried over the same thing when Hannah started to pull herself up to the standing position. But interestingly, she seems to know when and where she could throw her weight down. On hard floors, she would slowly lower her body to a squatting position before sitting down. On her bed, she would throw her weight down. Perhaps she enjoys the bouncing effect? :)

  3. Wow, what a clever sweetheart you have to know what’s hard ground and what’s not. You must get her a trampoline next haha!
