Google Street View

One of the tools I used in conjunction with Google Maps while planning for the San Francisco trip earlier this year was Street View. Not only could you check out overhead satellite imagery, now you could even zoom into street level and get 360 degree photographic orientations of the entire place! Way cool.

So, it was with a lot of delight when I read on Wednesday that Street View has been launched in Singapore too. Couldn’t wait to check out what The Rivervale looks like.:)

Though from panning the area around, some spots don’t look current. E.g. The Quartz condo has been completed and when I drive along Buangkok Drive, I can see families already living in selected units. According to Street View, The Quartz is still under construction LOL. My best guess is that the pictures and imagery should be around 6 to 12 months old.

Japan’s another country around in Asia that’s (already) got Street View, so I took a look at the surrounding areas of my upcoming trip next Friday. Here’s where I’ll be staying at for the 8 days:

The Hotel is – very nicely – situated right beside the park where Kumamoto Castle is.:)
