TV-watching baby

blog-2009-baby-DSC_3038-tv Here’s something we’re not quite sure if it’s a good thing or not. Since the last 2 weeks, Hannah has been increasingly expecting attention whenever she’s awake. The mobile that hangs over the cot that worked so well before (blogged here) seems less effective in keeping Hannah occupied and from grumbling.

One thing we’ve found that seems to work every time is to bring Hannah to watch TV with us. We’ve figured out how to both carry her and have dinner at the same time, and when we’re done, we’ll be on the sofa with Hannah on our laps, her head turned to see what’s going on the TV.

We’ve been on a Pirates of the Carribean binge i.e. watching all three films the last couple of evenings, and Hannah’s been… enthralled.Thing is, we’re not quite certain exactly which aspect of it is engaging her. Hopefully it’s not girly man Orlando Bloom, and if it’s Keira Knightley she’s ogling at, we’d be worried! It could be the more overt aspects of the films, like Hans Zimmer’s self-plagiarized soundtrack music in D minor, or maybe just that there’s a lot of kinetic motion on-screen in all three films.

Either way, we’re not complaining. As long as it keeps her occupied and not in one of her wailing modes, we don’t have to resort to, er, chloroform.:)
