Killer hornets

Ling has been rewatching the Planet Earth blu-ray set I bought her for Valentine’s Day several months ago. The series is still amazing even though this is repeated viewing.

Thing is, the natural world isn’t all so hunky dory sunshine and rainbows. In fact, some of it can be downright gruesome, say for example the Asian giant hornet, one of animal kingdom’s deadly insects. There’s a paragraph in the Wikipedia entry that describes how just a few dozen of these fellows can devastate an entire beehive i.e. slaughter every one of them. And we’re talking like 30,000 bees against 30 hornets.

Here’s a video of what I mean. It’s not for the fainthearted at all or those who’ll cringe at how the food chain really works in the animal kingdom. That said, here it goes:
