{"id":7670,"date":"2010-02-09T07:40:11","date_gmt":"2010-02-08T23:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/2010\/02\/09\/sextet-of-torment\/"},"modified":"2010-02-10T17:45:07","modified_gmt":"2010-02-10T09:45:07","slug":"sextet-of-torment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/2010\/02\/09\/sextet-of-torment\/","title":{"rendered":"Sextet of Torment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s an absolutely horrid gauntlet of traffic lights I have to get through every morning at 7:00 AM, and it\u2019s the series of traffic junctures from the infant care center I drop Hannah off at and then Ling.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re marked on the Google map below <strong>A<\/strong> to<strong> F<\/strong>. What really bites is that the route really is a very short 1.5 km only, but there are not one or two, but <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">six<\/span><\/strong> traffic lights to get through.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"blog-tpe-map\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/blogtpemap.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-tpe-map\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>A<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Right after driving out from the car park, there\u2019s a traffic light for students getting to the school just opposite.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>B<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Major cross-road juncture at the road; two turning lanes but of which only one is really usable (the other one is often used by slow U-turning vehicles)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>C<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>D<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Two killer junctures just 70 meters apart, with lights that change too quickly to expedite traffic getting onto Tampines Expressway.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>E<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Another mind-numbingly slow juncture for vehicles at the intersecting Punggol Road (filled with vehicles getting onto the Expressway) and Rivervale Street<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>F<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 The sixth traffic light for vehicles trying to turn into the small side road.<\/p>\n<p>It must be some kind of national obsession with traffic lights, made the worse in morning traffic. What\u2019s supposed to be a 1 minute drive takes as much as 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Ling alternates between chuckling at my exasperation and sighing (\u201cDarling, try not to begin each day with so much negativity (at the traffic) OK?\u201d) each morning.
