I\u2019ve been on this crave for Jollibean\u2019s beancurd since those days when beancurd & pancakes speciality shops started sprouting all over the island. Now, there are also Mr Bean and Pin Le – to name a few. In my personal opinion, Jollibean has gotten the right formula for their beancurd – texture and taste wise. Mr Bean\u2019s is a tad too tardy and Pin Le is like, CMI.<\/p>\n
In my childhood days, my parents used to buy both beancurd (tao hwey) and soybean milk (tao hwey shui) from our nearby wet market as part of our breakfast spread. I supposed these were considered to be nutritious food for growing up kids and also a very chi-na kind of food. In fact, soy products (e.g. tofu and soy sauce) are very much eaten by Asians (especially Chinese and Japanese). But I digress. I used to mix tao hwey with tao hwey shui (instead of the syrup) and ate them together. I must say that the combination is sooo delicious!<\/p>\n
In today\u2019s Singapore, the wet market hawker stalls are fast being taken over by foodcourts. And beancurd is seldom sold in foodcourts. Instead, beancurd and soybean milk are now sold separately by small franchise shops normally located at the basement levels of shopping centres.<\/p>\n
Yang\u2019s mom does great beancurd too. Hers is super soft and with lots of TLC. However, between Jollibean\u2019s and my mother in-law\u2019s beancurd, I still prefer Jollibean. Just a matter of preference, that\u2019s all. Nothing personal ok. Please don\u2019t let her know hor.
