Professional protocol and courtesy discourages me to comment too much about my guest lecturing here: but suffice it to say that teaching a technological and content heavy subject in an institution where English isn\u2019t spoken as a main language is <em>not<\/em> easy.<\/p>\n<p>But as one of the college\u2019s staff joked as I left after my first day of lecturing today, I can look forward to another Japanese dinner on my return back to the hotel!<\/p>\n<p>Oh yes: before dinner started this time, the chef who would be preparing my dinner came to my table, bowed, introduced himself and gave me his name card.:)<\/p>\n<p>Then it&#8217;s off with the appetizer:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px\" title=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4919-dining\" src=\"https:\/\/chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/blog2009kumamotoDSC_4919dining.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4919-dining\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then baked fish that was lightly salted and topped with some sort of soft nuts:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px\" title=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4921-dining\" src=\"https:\/\/chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/blog2009kumamotoDSC_4921dining.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4921-dining\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And then the main course: perfectly deep fried and large piece of Tonkatsu, which I would have surely got stuffed with\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px\" title=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4924-dining\" src=\"https:\/\/chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/blog2009kumamotoDSC_4924dining.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4924-dining\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026 but barely a half a minute later, the Kimonoed waitress returned with more dishes that make up the main course for dinner!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px\" title=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4926-dining\" src=\"https:\/\/chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/blog2009kumamotoDSC_4926dining.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4926-dining\" width=\"550\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bowl on the right is a rice bowl with sashimi and a number of other condiments and sushi items. The soup on left isn\u2019t miso soup, but it tastes faintly like szechuan soup.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px\" title=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4929-dining\" src=\"https:\/\/chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/blog2009kumamotoDSC_4929dining.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2009-kumamoto-DSC_4929-dining\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And dinner closed off with dessert again: and the same waitress as yesterday realized she didn\u2019t need to try to make me understand \u2018desserto\u2019. She knew I\u2019d eat anything that\u2019s placed on my table! :)<\/p>\n<p>Oh yes: MacBook Pro for me to work on the next day\u2019s lecture slides while waiting in between dishes.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, when I was accompanied to the lift lobby again with the waitress chatting with me in Japanese again, I ventured<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;Dinner was very delicious\u2026 \u2018Oishi\u2019!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 and she beamed and giggled.:)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before one gets the wrong idea: despite all the pictures of glorious and very delicious food that I try every day here, I\u2019m really in the city for work.
