Specifically, over here in Singapore at least, when you\u2019re young (sort of), people around you call you \u201cAh di\u201d, or little brother. When you\u2019re older, younger folk may refer call you \u201cUncle\u201d, which is a sort of respectful term the Chinese here use in reference to elders. When you\u2019re old and decrepit, you get promoted to \u201cAh Pek\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I should be used to the \u201cuncle\u201d label. Ever since Danyel came into the picture, he calls me \u201cer shu\u201d, or second uncle in Mandarin. However, just on Saturday, a 16 year old secondary school girl selling flags at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetdirectory.com\/asia_travel\/travel\/travel.php?travel_id=29281&amp;travel_site=88992\" target=\"_blank\">Hougang Mall<\/a> said to me \u201c<strong>Uncle<\/strong>, would you like to make a donation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Me, Uncle???!!
