Last year’s event took place in Toyota City, and at a time of the year when it was warm and humid. I was expecting the same kind of weather this year, with the event hosted in the city of Kisarazu. But as luck had it, the area was seeing a fair bit of rain, which brought daily temperatures from Singapore-like 32 degree Celsius temperatures to 8-10 degrees less than that. In short, very pleasant cooling weather, though as it also turned out, the constant drizzling posed challenges!

I was arriving early into Japan two days before the rest of my colleagues would arrive, and I took the opportunity to catch up with places in Tokyo. My workplace booked me on an ANA flight this time, landing at Narita International Airport on Saturday morning. As with Japan Airlines, legroom in the passenger cabin, economy class, was roomy and the seats were able to incline quite a bit backwards. However, my redeye flight also saw a wailing baby girl in the cabin whose persistent crying through the night made it near impossible for most of us in the cabin to get any sleep!

Flight ANA 804, a 7 hr 5 min flight. Narita is basically much further away from Tokyo compared to Haneda. Still, as my hotel was near Tarakacho Station – which itself is about a 12-minute walk from Tokyo Station – I made my way from Narita by hopping on the Keisei Access Express train. This was, according to ChatGPT, the most straightforward way to get from Narita to my hotel without needing to change trains, and the always-confident-sounding instructions from the tool were almost completely spot-on – except for one crucial bit where ChatGPT assured me that I would not have to get off the express train before Tarakacho Station:

Nope, you were not correct, ChatGTP. This was about 11AM and many hours before I could check in, so with my luggage left at the hotel, I headed to Tokyo Station to explore. First stop: Bic Camera at Yurakucho, then a quick lunch at Randy’s Donuts (they have super-sized and yummy donuts!) in Ginza, then headed next to Shinjuku to explore the area.

Bic Camera Yurakucho Store.

Randy Donuts Ginza.
