The first, Watchmen, has come and gone and I’ve blogged about it here the other week. The second and the Harry Potter flick, well, I follow primarily because I’ve got a completist fetish and not really because I think the books were that great.

Now, the last, Star Trek, because I’m a big fan of; blogged about it here several times now too. The trailers look awesome and are quite a visual treat. Ok, so it’s not as though CG work in itself is even very special anymore. But how many CG-laden big science fiction screen movies do we get these days anyway? It’s already been four years since Star Wars Episode III, and the glut of the CG we see on the screens today are off superhero or disaster movies.

There’re a few things I’ll need to get used to though for sure. For starters, I’ve never liked the collarless T-shirt design of starship personnel that we saw from the Original Series, and in the first few seasons of The New Generation. Seems that the reimagined movie will have the Enterprise crew strut around in the same old – bleh.

Still, in order to prep for the movie, we’ve been dusting off the cob webs from my old Star episodes and films on DVD, and watching them at home. We finished seasons 4 to 7 of ST: Voyager – that’s about 78 hours of material – and a week ago began on the films.

Thing though is that the Trek universe has been around for 43 years now, and there’s a lot of material. Doesn’t help that there are so many Enterprise starships and their individual crews. So, it’s taken a bit of explaining to get Ling up to speed on which crew is which, which timeline is which, and which starship is which LOL.

Fortunately, Ling’s digesting it all bit by bit and she’s hooked. Heck… even Trek-ish words and phrases have started figuring into her daily speech. Like how she asked the other day if I’m going to take my ‘sonic shower’ first after returning home hot and perspiring from a workout at the gym.

She still hasn’t said “Darling you are being hailed” when she hears my phone ringing, or “Structural integrity at 18% and failing!” when I’m in the toilet about to poop. But I’m paying close attention – I’ll give it a few more days.:)

There’re just three ‘big’ movies on my “Must Watch” list this year: they’re Watchmen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (!), and Star Trek.
