<\/p>\nHere in Singapore, Chinese names given to newborns typically follow a name structure that\u2019s kept consistent for each generation. For instance, my generation was \u201cFoo Chek *\u201d. For the next generation, it\u2019s \u201cFoo Jie *\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mum has been thinking of a couple of alternatives for us to choose. So, we went by Lentor for dinner, after which we sat down to look through all of them:<\/p>\n

One of the nicest things about having Chinese names is that each character is rich in its meaning. Mum highlighted three possibilities:<\/p>\n
Foo Jie \u2018an\u2019 – \u7b26\u5a55\u5b89 \u2013 Peace and tranquility<\/p>\n
Foo Jie \u2018qing\u2019 – \u7b26\u5a55\u5e86 \u2013 To celebrate<\/p>\n
Foo Jie \u2018xin\u2019 – \u7b26\u5a55\u6615 \u2013 Dawn, and the sun rising<\/p>\n
We discounted \u2018qing\u2019 pretty quickly. We didn’t want our baby girl turning into a party animal LOL. Of the remaining two, I\u2019m Ok with either though I think Jie \u2018an\u2019 sounds phonetically closest to \u2018Agnes\u2019 and \u2018Hannah\u2019. Ling thinks \u2018an\u2019 is a little non-descript, and much prefers \u2018xin\u2019 instead as it\u2019s a lot more meaningful.<\/p>\n
Yeah, I took a picture of the paper she scribbled the characters down. One day, we\u2019re gonna show this picture to our girl and let her see the different possibilities then.:)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
