We drove past the Tamsui MRT station stop on our way to the Fisherman’s Wharf, and it sure looked packed with both incoming and outbound passengers! The town has quite a bit of history involving the Spanish and Dutch in the 1600s, then claimed by the Japanese around the late 1800s. We arrived in Tamsui from Beitou Thermal Valley just past 2PM, and didn’t think of including any of its historical landmarks — especially its Fort San Domingo. The initial itinerary plan was to spend just an hour exploring the area here, but we ended up staying for 2.5 hours in the Wharf because we’d significantly shortened the preceding itinerary on Yangmingshan, and now had much more time on our hands.

The early to mid-afternoon showed clear skies, making for really beautiful settings for photos. The area also wasn’t that busy, despite this being a Saturday afternoon. There were few tour buses about as well — perhaps Tamsui isn’t a particularly common mass tourism spot. Great for us. The first stack of pictures are of the Fisherman’s Wharf, and the latter from the waterfront-facing Old Street which is several minutes drive away.

View of the wharf from the Lover’s Bridge.
