It was about 6:15PM by the time we got back to Taichung City. It’d been a fairly long day already and though this time would be just considered late afternoon back at home, it was really early night in the city. Rather than return to the apartment and for us to walk the 10 minutes again to find dinner, we had Kong drop us off at Feng Chia Night Market<\/strong> to explore the area again and get food. This was right smack in Saturday evening, so lots of people about \u2014 though everyone was polite enough to make way when necessary, and there was no shoving or pushing. The Taiwanese are really polite and really do mind their manners in public spaces, in relative comparison to Hong Kongers and mainland Chinese.<\/p>\n

The night market \u2014 Feng Chia being this one \u2014 is always popular with both tourists and locals alike, and the colorful signboards make for pretty pictures. The first eight pictures in this post were taken using the Sony 16-35mm f4. Not the best lens for location photos with human beings in the foreground, but it was still mounted on the A73 since we left Gaomei Wetlands and I didn’t feel up to changing lenses.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Hundreds of hawkers offering a huge range of small eats, snacks and tidbits \u2014 all affordably priced.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
Though this was night time, the amount of ambient illumination provided sufficient light for the A73 to capture exposures at a reasonably good shutter speed and ISO: this one is at ISO 1,600, f4, 1\/125s.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
Freshly squeezed watermelon juice: NTD19\/SGD0.85 for a mid-sized cup, and NTD30\/SGD1.34 \u2014 I think \u2014 for the largest one.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The large cup was enough for the four of us to share and provide quick respite from thirst.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
Lots of people, though not quite to the point where we had serious problems exploring the area. Many of the sit-down restaurants and cafes were crowded though, so we had to look around the outskirts of the night market to find an eating place with seating.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Time for a quick shot while waiting for the traffic lights to turn in our favor.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We finally made do with a small zi-char type eatery just two minutes from our apartment. This eatery was dishing out a huge range of dishes, all at street prices. We had three plates of fried rice, cooked differently \u2014 and each was priced at just NTD65\/SGD2.89 to NTD80\/SGD3.56.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The market is an easy 10-minute walk away from our place of stay in Taichung.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We were pretty worn out by the time we got back to our Taichung apartment. Fortunately, we’ll be starting later tomorrow morning, starting with a visit to the Rainbow Village<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
