There are a lot of places to stay while on Phuket island. Though now that we’ve spent five days on the island now at our first place of stay – Cassia Phuket – we’re again reminded that the general area you select your property to stay in needs to keep in mind the general proximity to the places you want to check-out. The short version of Cassia Phuket for us is that the hotel was a great stay, but it also resulted in a few challenges we had to work with – largely in view of its location.<\/p>\n

Our notes!<\/p>\n

Cassia Phuket is situated on the western side of the island<\/strong> and roughly a very manageable and pleasant 10 minutes walk to Bang Tao beach. There are six floors of units, and – from my best estimate – perhaps around 120 rooms in all. In other words, it’s a fairly small hotel. The property seems to be a favorite among Caucasians – especially Russians – and we also observed a few Asians, including a very small number of South-East Asians (e.g. Singaporeans like us), and also a larger number of Chinese Nationals.<\/p>\n

Our unit was a 2 bedroom loft suite with a lagoon\/pool view<\/strong>, and situated on the top floor. The units which are solidly centered in the middle of the floor will get the best view of the pool and lagoon, and also sunset each day. Ours wasn’t, but it was still a fairly decent view nonetheless. The unit has two lockable bedrooms – a master and a smaller bedroom – with two separate toilets with shower stalls equipped with rain shower heads. Other amenities include a dining area with table for four, a living area, a fully decked-out kitchen with electric stove, microwave, toaster and a medium-sized fridge with a freezer unit. The master, bedroom and living area each have their own phone units, and Samsung flat-screen TVs of 37\/42″ sizes.<\/p>\n

The unit has a modernistic chic<\/strong>, and the living area has a TV feature wall even – not something we see in many other hotels.<\/p>\n

And of course, the loft<\/strong>, which you climb up to with a staircase. Mind the beam when you climb up LOL. The loft was turned into the kids’ go-nuts and sleeping area. There are fairly tall iron grills that run along the side of the loft, so should be fairly safe for kids.<\/p>\n

The loft unit has five air-conditioning units<\/strong>. Yep, no kidding! But more on that later too.<\/p>\n

The room had six bottles of water<\/strong> when we arrived, and after the every two days room servicing was done, another half-dozen bottles were added. That’s easily by far the most amount of complimentary drinking water any property has included in the room!<\/p>\n

The breakfast buffet spread<\/strong> was a little limited on account that the hotel is fairly small, but Laguna Village and Market is a short 5-10 minutes walk away, with many eateries, restaurants and convenience shops. If that’s not manageable, Canal Village is literally just opposite Cassia Phuket, though I’m not sure if the two restaurants there – S, and Albatross Cafes – are open for morning breakfasts.<\/p>\n

As for the little AFI bits:<\/p>\n

Laundry<\/strong> is a little on the pricey side at 380THB for each kg of laundry.<\/p>\n

The full-height windows in the living and master rooms though come with a price: the pool and lagoon-facing units will receive the full blast of the afternoon sun<\/strong>. Even with all five air-conditioners on full-blast, the master room only really cooled down in the very late afternoon. This wasn’t a problem for us since we we were out of the hotel for most afternoons, and the rest of the unit was still suitably cooled.<\/p>\n

The lap pool<\/strong> is rather small, and water isn’t clear – likely on account of the nearby sand pool.<\/p>\n

The hotel also requires a 4,000THB deposit to cover incidentals<\/strong> – something that our next place of stay @ Sino House Phuket Hotel didn’t require.<\/p>\n

This place gets our solid recommendation! The loft unit can comfortably sleep 3 adults in the two bedrooms and 2 kids in the loft. If you’re looking to stay in the pool\/lagoon facing unit, just be mindful that the master room might suffer from Greenhouse effect on hot afternoons.<\/p>\n
