She’d sent along a very helpful document outlining all the items we’ll need, so Ling turned the list into an Excel spreadsheet to track which items we’ll need to buy.

Shopping for baby items is for certain a lot easier in this day and age. Say 30 years ago during our parents’ generation, you wouldn’t have had ready access to a range of user opinions. You could count on advice from friends and relatives of course, but not beyond normally.

These days, all it takes is a Google search, and you’ll get a ton of advice, comments and reviews of any given type of item.

That readily accessible information has cut down on our searching time. We checked out a couple of baby shops like Kiddy Palace at Compass Point, and a few others at Bedok and Upper Serangoon, but our purchasing decisions were based largely on the collective feedback we were getting from actual owners and users rather than sales pitches.

So far we’ve already picked up the iEcologi and a mini sound system for the kid’s room. Over the last weekend we headed to Kiddy Palace to pick up a bunch of other large items: the baby cot, the play pen, mattresses, covers and water-proof sheets for them, the car seat, and also the pram/stroller. Damage? $1,305.

One thing I’ve noticed about Ling though. She wanted on the spot training sessions from the sales staff on how to use each of those mechanical devices (the pram and the car seat) before buying them. So, a 30 minute visit to buy those items turned out into a nearly 2 hour stay in shop. Fortunately the sales assistant that helped us was very patient – compared to an increasingly exasperated husband LOL – when she showed Ling step-by-step how to operate each device.

More in another post: the pram! :)

Taking our sis-in-law Sharon’s advice, the both of us decided to start buying the larger items for our forthcoming baby girl.
