I\u2019ve lost count of the number of times when we\u2019re driving to school early in the morning when Ling will suddenly say, \u201cEr darling, I just remembered I don\u2019t have any more money in my wallet!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A couple of times even Ling has been in her school and had to go hungry because she&#8217;d forgotten to check if she had any money left.<\/p>\n<p>One incident that\u2019s especially funny happened just a week ago in in fact. One late afternoon Ling finished work early, so came by campus to wait for me to be also done for the day so we could go home together. Now, I was in the staff conference room for a meeting. And I got this SMS on the phone:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cDarling, can u come out? I have no money.:(<\/p>\n<p>Apparently Ling was hungry, and only realized that her wallet had been emptied off cash when she was at the faculty canteen downstairs. In fact, she even had this idea of asking if the stall auntie could just cash collect from her husband the next day.:)<\/p>\n<p>So laugh if you will, but a week ago I got both so exasperated + bemused that I&#8217;ve decided to leave a $10 note in the driver&#8217;s compartment in the car, so the next time she goes to school without checking if she has &#8216;pocket&#8217; money, well, at least she won&#8217;t starve LOL.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the unstated duties of being married is that the husband needs to be a 24\/7 cash-dispensing ATM machine for the perpetually cash-strapped (or absent-minded) wife.
