OK so maybe no one besides our bud in Missouri reads this, that the both of us have a Dining in Singapore blog on netsphere has led us to sampling beyond our usual dining fares. This time, on a humid Saturday afternoon, we drove back to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetdirectory.com\/asia_travel\/travel\/travel.php?travel_id=9161&amp;travel_site=103703\" target=\"_blank\">Thomson Plaza<\/a> and had lunch at the foodcourt.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Pork katsu @ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetdirectory.com\/asia_travel\/travel\/travel.php?travel_id=9161&amp;travel_site=103703\" target=\"_blank\">Thomson Plaza<\/a> foodcourt<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image159\" src=\"https:\/\/chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/dining-008.JPG\" alt=\"dining-008.JPG\" align=\"right\" \/>I haven\u2019t tried the Jap cusine at this foodcourt before. Most of the time the queues are too long and I like my food fast.:) This time round there weren\u2019t many people lining up. The Pork katsu set caught my eye: one doesn\u2019t find this as often as the nearly ubiquitous Chicken katsu set that\u2019s found in nearly every Japanese eatery.<\/p>\n<p>There was a piece of deep fried pork cutlet with egg, a small bowl of salad and miso soup. The set\u2019s missing the additional garnishing and fruit that one sees elsewhere, but then again the $4.90 price here is cheaper too. The salad was forgettable, and miso soup rather bland. The pork cutlet itself was more impressive: though drench in sauce, it was still reasonably crispy and tasty enough. The service was excellent too: the middle-aged lady at the counter was polite.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Food: 3 \/ 5<\/li>\n<li>Service: 4 \/ 5<\/li>\n<li>Value: 3.5 \/ 5<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overall: 3.5 \/ 5 (So-so. Can eat again if there\u2019s nothing left to eat.)<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Char Siew roast duck noodles @ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetdirectory.com\/asia_travel\/travel\/travel.php?travel_id=9161&amp;travel_site=103703\" target=\"_blank\">Thomson Plaza<\/a> foodcourt<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image160\" src=\"https:\/\/chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/dining-009.JPG\" alt=\"dining-009.JPG\" align=\"right\" \/>Ling carted back to our table an impressive tray. I even exclaimed \u201cWow &#8211; that\u2019s a lot of food. Sure you can finish or not\u2026??\u201d For $6, this is what she got: The dish was Char Siew roast duck \u2019set\u2019 meal, prepared (according to the sign) in the Hong Kong style. There was a helping of \u201cxiao bai cai\u201d vegetables, a plate of roast duck meat, char siew (barbequed pork), braised groundnuts, cucumber, the noodles itself, and a bowl of soup.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the taste of the various items was varied and less impressive than its presentation. Ling and I found both the main meat items rather\u2026 well, plain-tasting. They were serviceable but the char siew could had been more deeply roasted. The same sauce was used for both meats: that\u2019s bad. The noodles tasted like the noodles from every other stall. Fortunately, the vegetables and groundnuts tasted better, and there was portion of vegetables was generous. On the final note, Ling complained that someone jumped queue at the stall but the owner said nothing. So, on the overall, her rating:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Food: 2.5 \/ 5<\/li>\n<li>Service: 2.5 \/ 5<\/li>\n<li>Value: 4 \/ 5<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overall: 3 \/ 5 (One time &#8211; next time we\u2019ll look elsewhere.)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This food blog is doing wonders to our meal times.
