In this case, I’m asked to take shots of a Cheetah tearing after its prey at speed, with 40,000 ¥ as reward.

Using equipment like these. It’s a Sony game, so no you won’t find a Canon EOS or Nikon D3. But as the campaign progresses, you get access to better DSLRs and lenses. It’s also probably hard to tell, but the picture below is the realtime generated 3D model of the camera in the game, not a static photograph of the Sony α 100. It looks scarily like the real thing.

This is quite a bit later during the actual shoot when we finally find a Cheetah after driving around the Savannah a bit. The Cheetah is chasing after a Thomson’s Gazelle:

After a short chase in the rover, the Cheetah closes in for the kill. I took a series of about 15 pictures. I liked this one the most, but the game automatically suggested another picture which it judged to be the better one. Hmm. It’s up to you in the game though which photo you finally select for submission.

Back in camp, I clear off the photos and retain only those I want. Yep, the camera keeps track of shutter and aperture settings for each picture. Oh yeah. If you don’t hold the controller steady, the game knows this using motion sensing technology, and there’s a good chance you get a blurred photo. Yep, just like when you’re using actual cameras LOL.

So, the game suggested one photo it judged to be the best, and I defer to its choice. Sent it, and here are the returns. An “A” judged along four criteria: Angle, Target, Distance, and Technique. No clue how the game calculated these scores though.

It’s all very fun!

Ling got inspired enough she suggested going on a real African safari at some point.:)

Following up my post the other day on the game.
