A mid-afternoon visit to the ongoing renovation at our Minton apartment on Day 21 showed that work has indeed slowed down. Again, not surprising since there’s a lot of time from now till the workshops finish the ton of carpentry work for our home, so the electricians said they’ll pop by whenever they can to do a bit of work in between other jobs but there’s no hurry at this point.<\/p>\n

As these things go, many home owners take the opportunity in their home renovations to build shelving where possible. I don’t like to keep physical things anymore, preferring where possible to work on digital copies only. Ling’s much more of a pack rat though, and I’m constantly wondering whether the shelving we’ve already included in our renovation plans will suffice her needs! In any case, here are some random notes on cabinets and additional shelving that we’ve been including since our home renovation started 3 weeks ago.<\/p>\n

We were initially planning to buy a dishwasher and to build one segment of a new kitchen cabinet to house this dishwasher (it’ll be where the existing washer area is). This proved problematic though when our designer did precise measurements – a cabinet that could house a full height dishwasher cabinet would look quite odd against the existing counter top height in the rest of the kitchen. We scouted around and managed to find more compact dishwashers that were half-height, which nicely solved the problem. One issue though is that the dishwasher model we were interested in has its control knob, buttons and display at the appliance’s base – so we proposed for the appliance to sit on top of shelving\/drawer instead. Check out my chicken-scrawl diagram I drew for my designer to illustrate what I meant.<\/p>\n

Of all the rooms we’ve doing up, Ling has been spending the most time on the children’s room. After researching (a lot) on Scandinavian-themed children rooms, she found a reference picture for wall-hung shelves, showed it to our designer to see if he could do something similar. So yes, he’s going to try to do exactly just that LOL.<\/p>\n

Midweek we also had the opportunity to visit another neighbor’s unit in the same block, and Ling liked what she saw in that home that she’ll like to include into our home too. For instance, for our dry kitchen:<\/p>\n
