I really liked the Motorola Atrix I had been using for six months. It was well-built, fast, the longest battery life I’ve experienced outside this Nokia mono-color phone I use during Reservist stints, and had a nifty thumbprint scanner that continually amazed my nephews. So, it was a bit of a shock when I checked and saw that as good as the phone was, the trade-in price of the phone was comparatively low.

My current phone plan had expired and was up for renewal, so rather than wait for the Atrix’s trade-in value to dwindle down to nothingness, I took the opportunity to look for the next Android phone gadget. The two top Android dogs right this moment for most people remain the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Samsung Galaxy Note. Yep, both made by the same company and of the same model line, with the latter very slightly more expensive than the former here. Both phones upon re-contract would require a small top-up fee, which I thought was reasonable enough.

Both phones are well-reported and reviewed, but for those of us who’re ignorant, they go something like this:

Nexus: fantastic build, stylish, most current Android software, beautiful high-resolution screen, mediocre battery life.

Note: beautiful and humongous high-resolution screen, great battery life, somewhat dated Android software. May look strange holding a near-tablet sized phone next to your ear.

I think I’ve been thoroughly spoiled by the Atrix’s battery, and can’t see myself going back to phones which expire within a day. I tried a colleague’s Note too, and while it does look a little strange to be making calls with a phone that hearkens back to those days of those brick-sized phones from the early ‘90s, in reality it doesn’t look that bad. So, it was the Note for me.

Next to Ling’s Sony Xperia Neo V, which looks positive dimunitive in comparison!

Yep; the phone’s huge. Significantly larger than my wallet even.
