Overheard during our Day 2 Chinese New Year dinner at Lentor. Jonathan \u2013 one of my nephews \u2013 staggered into the house real tired as he had a long day. His cousin, Isaac, quips:<\/p>\n

“Tired?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Yea\u2026\u201d Jonathan mutters<\/p>\n

\u201cI know what will wake you up\u2026 the iPad!\u201d<\/p>\n

The bunch of adults who were nearby overheard and couldn\u2019t resist a chuckle. Because shortly after dinner, the entire lot could be found in the living room doing this again:<\/p>\n

Should we be worried LOL.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

That\u2019s all five of them grandchildren of the Foo clan. Even Hannah looks happily interested in what\u2019s going on on Danyel\u2019s iPad (he\u2019s on Plants vs Zombies actually).<\/p>\n

It\u2019s certainly a sign of the times, and I guess we\u2019ll all be wrestling with the new generation of digital natives who will be far more comfortable with technology than we were at their age, and it\u2019ll come with all the accompanying challenges of responsible technology use.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, while Hannah never fails to ask me in all innocent earnestness if her good behavior for the day has earned her 10 minutes of iPad time before bedtime, I\u2019m still glad to report that she\u2019s not actually \u2018hooked\u2019 onto it at all. It\u2019s easy to tell; I just tell her I\u2019ll like to substitute her iPad time with some other play activity and she\u2019ll happily oblige.=)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
