{"id":10265,"date":"2010-06-24T00:01:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-23T16:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/2010\/06\/27\/gloucester-exploration\/"},"modified":"2010-06-23T23:43:59","modified_gmt":"2010-06-23T15:43:59","slug":"gloucester-exploration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/2010\/06\/24\/gloucester-exploration\/","title":{"rendered":"Gloucester \u2013 Exploration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gloucester, pronounced \u2018gloze-ster\u2019 with a silent \u2018c\u2019, is a small town situated at Cape Ann, and the eastern side of Massachusetts. According to its 2000 census, the town has just 30,000 residents.<\/p>\n<p>Besides it being one of the country\u2019s oldest settlements (established in 1623) and its oldest seaport, it also is the filming site for the <em><strong>The Perfect Storm<\/strong><\/em>, the 2000 film starring George Clooney about a Gloucester fishing boat that was lost at sea during a fierce hurricane in 1991. I\u2019ll have to rewatch the film again when I\u2019m back in Singapore and hopefully recognize many of the actual locations seen in the film.:)<\/p>\n<p>OK; a small selection of pictures taken in the several hours we spent in the town before heading to the whale-watching boat. Below: the Chamber of Commerce \u2013 each small town seems to have one, which sort of acts as the first information stop for out-of-town visitors:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0773-Gloucester\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/blog2010bostonDSC_A0773Gloucester.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0773-Gloucester\" width=\"550\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There was a bunch of men near one of the docks getting into a boat. They didn\u2019t look like professional seamen though. My best guess is that they\u2019re heading to their yacht for a day trip out in the glorious summer sun.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0767-Gloucester\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/blog2010bostonDSC_A0767Gloucester.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0767-Gloucester\" width=\"550\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Booking the whale-watching expedition at USD45 for each of us. The boat was departing at 2:30 PM, so we had time for more exploration.:)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0775-Gloucester\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/blog2010bostonDSC_A0775Gloucester.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0775-Gloucester\" width=\"550\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This dude on the Harley Davidson gave me a wave when he saw me taking a snapshot of him:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0791-Gloucester\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/blog2010bostonDSC_A0791Gloucester.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0791-Gloucester\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Fisherman\u2019s memorial in honor of the memory of the 10,000 Gloucester fishermen who lost their lives at sea throughout the years:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0827-Gloucester\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chekyang.com\/musings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/blog2010bostonDSC_A0827Gloucester.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"blog-2010-boston-DSC_A0827-Gloucester\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Walking along Western Avenue, we had a marvelous view of the coast line.
