I last visited Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden during our family vacation in Tokyo in Dec 2019, and I loved the park. With several hours to kill before I could check in, from Ginza I hopped on the Marunouchi Line and travelled several stops westwards. The park entrance isn’t right where one exits from Shinjuku-gyoemma Station, but it was a manageable 5-minute walk. Admission for adults is ¥500. The weather was cloudy on this Saturday early afternoon, which made for pictures that looked a little drab, but the sun did finally show itself an hour later into the visit.
The park was relatively uncrowded for a weekend, and there were many young couples and Japanese families with children visiting. Pictures!
Unlike the Dec 2019 trip, I was able to do a complete circuit around the park, and it was about 2:30PM when I’d finished. Shinjuku Station was quite a bit more crowded – this being the weekend, so no surprises there.

By this time, I’d already clocked in almost 18,000 steps, and the legs were getting a little jelly-like – no doubt from the lack of sleep on the plane ride! So it was time to head back to Tarakacho Station to check in. That’s a wrap for Day 01. Continued in the next post!
