Day 05 @ Jeju – Northeast Jeju – Garden @ Starbucks Reserve

While researching for our Jeju itinerary months ago, one thing was clear for any vacation travel in Jeju in the month of June: be prepared for rain! We have been really lucky for the first four days of this trip, enjoying sunny and clear skies with only very light drizzles towards the end of selected days. But on Day 05 Wednesday today, it finally rained cats and dogs all morning. That required some quick changes to our itinerary, as we’d earlier planned for a morning visit to Jeolmul Natural Recreation Forest. That wasn’t going to happen anymore in heavy rain. So, we ducked into a ramyeon restaurant located near Cheonjiyeon Waterfall for brunch – and they whipped up some of the best ramen I’ve ever tasted – then headed in a northerly direction towards Manjanggul Lava Tube.

The rain droplets in Jeju seem smaller than the typical raindrops we observe in Southeast Asia.

Along the way though, Mr. Lee suggested we stop by a Starbucks cafe. We were intrigued, and – putting aside the wife’s addiction to coffee – we wondered what was so special about this Starbucks outlet. As it turned out, this cafe has an absolutely gorgeous landscaped garden, and requires no admission charges. No wonder this outlet is so popular with locals, as the two-floor cafe was filled with patrons enjoying their beverages and taking in the gorgeous view of the garden.

We would have stayed for just 15 minutes and would have lingered longer, were it not for the rain and winds that made the kids shiver in the cold. Continued in the next post!
