New Life – Part 1

I’d just been sleeping for a couple of hours when Ling roused me from sleep at 1:10 AM saying “Dear, my water bag broke!”. The first thing that came to mind was oh boy – it was going to be a long night LOL.

Thankfully, we’d already several weeks ago planned out exactly our action sequences depending on when the new baby boy comes. The ‘Evening plan’ kicked in; our bags were already packed from a week ago, with our supporting documents and letters, change of clothes, cameras, batteries, laptop and chargers in them. So, it was a quick change of clothes, shutting down of electronic equipment in the house, waking Hannah up from her sleep, calling parents, calling for a cab on speed-dial, and we were out of the house in 15 minutes. Throughout the 15 minute ride to Thomson Medical Center, Hannah was again accounting all the things she was going to do for her baby brother and Mommy (the latter involving buying lots of shoes and clothes for Ling).

Our evening action plan also involved parents coming by the hospital to pick Hannah up and bring her to our family home. Hannah seemed just a little disappointed that she wouldn’t get to witness anything much, but the birthing ward is simply no place for children. The attending nurse who received us did remark that many children who accompany their parents to the hospital can get very clingy when they have to head out – but Hannah on the other hand was “extremely well-behaved and cute too”. Parents reached the hospital just before 2 AM to pick Hannah up.

As opposed to the last time round we were here too, Ling did not hesitate opting for the epidural. 4 years ago with Hannah, she started off before that big day with “No problem – I can definitely give birth naturally!” to “GIMME THE EPIDURAL!!!” 10 minutes after she was warded LOL. The duty anesthetist administered the epidural at 3:30 AM, and the contractions are starting to become less painful for Ling.

Unless delivery is impending, it looks to be several hours of waiting now for the both of us. More updates to come later.=)
