Downtown – Boston Public Library & State Transportation Building

The Boston Public Library has achieved a lot of firsts: the first publicly supported library in the United States, and the first large library that was opened to the public in the country. I was especially interested to visit this library as its main hall on the second floor has a soaring barrel-vaulted ceiling.

There is an inner courtyard inside the library compound, with many persons enjoying the free Wifi, or just reading a book from the library’s vast collection. That’s Matt on the third picture below.:)

The Massachusetts State Transportation Building has a seven floor high, skylight atrium. Interestingly, while the Eyewitness Travel Guide said that the atrium is directly accessible to the public, I was stopped by building security on the second floor from taking pictures. Duh. The security guard would have done any one of Singapore’s many mall guards proud.

In any case, there was no one stopping me from taking pictures at the ground level, which was very public, with many elderly Chinese gentlemen relaxing and occupying the cafe tables and chairs.
